Light and Land

Landscapes in the Digital Darkroom

Michael Frye

Light and Land is written specifically for landscape photographers who want to clarify their own unique vision. Michael walks you through the development of five different images, discussing the hows and whys of each one. Learn more.

With equal parts inspiration and instruction Michael goes step-by-step through the aesthetic judgments behind each decision, and unpacks the secrets to bringing out the full potential of landscape photographs in the digital darkroom. He details his simple, powerful, Lightroom workflow, but the principles apply to any software, including Aperture or Photoshop. Author of Digital Landscape Photography: In the Footsteps of Ansel Adams and the Great Masters, Michael knows his stuff about inspired landscapes and the post-processing techniques that make his vision a reality.

Schweitzer Leonard – you can move the PDF to any device you wish (We recommend GoodReader on the iPad). If you purchase the ebook within our Apple App Store you will not be able to move it to a different device.

I bought Light&Vision on my MacPro and love it. I see it’s available for iPad and I want it also on my MacBookPro. Do I pay a fee for each device?

Would it be possible to download the originals (RAW) of the 5 photographs Michael postprocesses, so we can follow his steps and considerations?

Thank you for your good descriptions and wonderful images. I use ACR and CS5 instead of Lightroom so will want to refine your flow to make it fit better. I think it would help to have a flow diagram as an Appendix to help work through our own issues. The book is very good and I highly recommend it.

This a great e-book and a marvellous companion to Vision & Voice. Would it be possible to download the originals of the 5 photographs Michael postprocesses, so we can follow his steps and considerations? As with V & V, which is a great way to learn.

Michael is outstanding as a photographer and teacher of the craft so it should be no surprise that this ebook is also outstanding. He doesn’t bore you with the clicking of certain buttons or the idiosyncrasies of a particular program, rather he brings you inside his sphere of creativity and shows you how he takes an image from his camera and reproduces the image as he saw it when he released the shutter. Truly a creative learning process.

    Thank you, Michael.

The stunning images made this eBook a pleasure to learn from. Michael’s approach to sharpening and working with point curves was enlightening.

I screen captured the images so that I could follow the tutorials, however, I would have liked the RAW images to work with.

This eBook provided a valuable learning experience.

Michael is an incredible photographer and a gifted author and teacher. This book combines it all. Not only stunning photographs, but how they were created from their RAW beginnings. Just following along, I went back and improved two of my images right off the bat.
    Great e-book, great price.

AWESOME! Plain and simple. I will now look at landscapes differently. Michael does a great job of explaining his workflow regarding landscape images… that’s if you can peel your eyes away from his images.

I learned something new while reading the chapter that deals with the Curves settings in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3. Thank you Michael Frye!

Would be VERY helpful to know the page count on all of the Books available here.
    Just a suggestion.
I am tempted to buy ALL of the books but would like to know the chapter breakdowns and page counts of any book I buy.

    Thanks!

    Jeff

Short version: Eye candy, and nourishing, substantial brain food all rolled up into one ebook.

Long version can be found here: http://littleredtent.net/LRTblog/2010/12/14/exclusive-sneak-peak-review-of-michael-fryes-new-book/

In “Light and Land” Michael Frye shares his post-processing workflow and favorite Lightroom tools, but most importantly, the thought process leading to the final image, expressing the photographer’s vision. It is particularly aimed at landscape images, but can be used in any type of photography and with any other then Lightroom post-processing software. The e-book has a lot to offer for just 5$ of its price. Full of practical information and great images, is a perfect idea for a present for a photographer in the family, or for yourself.
