Do you want to add life and depth to your images? Dodge & Burn, Leading the Eye with Lightroom and Photoshop is an amazing eBook package (.zip file) that will guide you through the process of making the most out of your digital darkroom.
When editing your photographs, dodging and burning can produce that gentle push or pull of the eye so your viewer can zero in on everything your creative vision intended. It’s arguably one of the most important steps in post-processing and it’s as old as photography itself. Dodge & Burn is a comprehensive eBook (91-speads) about the tools and the techniques you need to quickly make editing your image files in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop easier and more fun. Amateurs and vocational photographers alike will benefit from Piet’s insights, workflow, custom-built panel and matching action set, links to video resources, and special discounts on Nik Software.
What’s truly amazing about this offering is that it’s so much more than an eBook, it’s a package! The FULL package includes Piet’s custom EasyDodge Photoshop Panel (normally a USD $10 purchase on it’s own) and a matching user guide. On top of that, we’ve included 10 exercise files to go along with the tutorials in the eBook so you can practice on your own or go through the included history steps to see the post-processing unfold right in front of your eyes. EasyDodge is an amazing little piece of software, a custom Photoshop palette. To see it in action, watch Piet’s demo video on his website.
Lite vs. Full: This eBook offering comes into versions. If you want the “LITE” version of the EasyDodge Panel and do not want the 10 exercises files simply view the Dodge & Burn Lite Package in the main eBook library.
Software: The EasyDodge Panel only works with English versions of CS5/CS6, but even if you’re on a different version, the eBook explains the steps to take so you could make your own action set in your own language-specific version).
Download Message: This product is not the usual PDF download, it’s a 74mb .zip file. Like all our products, we encourage you to start the download on an appropriate device and have access to a stable internet connection.
—CS6 UPDATE NOTICE (FOR PANEL DOWNLOADS PRIOR TO OCTOBER 5, 2012—
If you’re using Photoshop CS6, or planning to use CS6 in the future, we’ve discovered that the most recent update of Photoshop CS6 (to version number 13.01) triggers a bug that causes the custom Dodge & Burn panel to disappear.
As the source of the bug was in the Adobe Configurator software used to create the panel, we’ve had to wait until there was a fix to the software. With this fix now in place, we’ve updated the panel and included it in this email.
Please save the following zxp attachment on your computer and install the extension as you installed the original one. If necessary, please refer to the manual that was included in your original download of the Dodge & Burn Full Package.
When installing, disregard any warnings that you’re about to overwrite the original extension, as this is the point of this update.
If you use Windows / Internet Explorer the link above might display as a zip file instead of a zxp file, you will need to rename the zip file to zxp if that happens.
If you have any questions please reach out to the author, Piet Van den Eynde.
What to do when trying to install the panel extension and Windows says you don’t have the necessary permissions?
1) try the procedure as explained in the eBook and make sure you’re logged in as an Administrator
2) if that does not work, keep logged in as an Administrator, but now also run the Adobe Extension Manager itself as an administrator.
In order to do this:
3) Close Extension Manager
4) Locate the Extension Manager application (it should be in your Program Files)
5) Right-click on it and choose Run as Administrator from the context-sensitive menu
6) With Extension Manager open, choose File > Install Extension and navigate to the zxp file in your download
Will it work with Elements?
No, CS5 & CS6 English Versions only.
When trying to install the extension in CS5.x, I get a message that there is a problem with the signature’s extension and the installation does not continue.
This can be due to not having the latest version of Extension Manager installed:
1) Go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
2) Scroll down a little until you see the text about the Extension manager 5.5.3 and 5.0.3 updates and install the one that matches your Photoshop or Creative suite version.
3) Now try to install the extension again.
I’ve been able to install the panel correctly, but when clicking on a button I get a message ‘The command is currently not available’.
This is almost invariably due to not loading the actions into Photoshop’s Actions panel. Remember, you not only have to copy the actions over to the Photoshop Actions folder, but also load them into the Photoshop Actions panel. Please re-read the right column of page 3 of the EasyDodge user manual and have a look at the screenshot on that same page.
I’m getting a message that I do not have the correct version of Extension Manager to install the panel.
Make sure you’re opening EasyDodgeFullCS5.zxp or EasyDodgeLiteCS5.zxp with with Extension Manager CS5 and EasyDodgeFullCS6.zxp or EasyDodgeLiteCS6.zxp with with Extension Manager CS6. Sometimes, if you have both installed, depending on which one is set as the default application, you might get this error. In that case, do not double-click on the extension to install it but right-click, choose Open With from the context menu and choose the matching version of the Extension Manager.
